Today we have 30 seconds in the hot seat with Lisa Hylton; E-Commerce Manager at Create and Craft….
How long have you been at Create and Craft?
I celebrated my 10th anniversary this year, but it’s gone so quickly!
Have you always worked in the E-Commerce team?
I’ve always been in this team, but started as senior copywriter, having previously been a journalist for 18 years. I love shopping, so writing for an online and TV shopping business was a dream job! In addition to writing product copy, banner copy and emails, I’ve even produced copy for packaging of an underwear line and recipes for a brand of kitchenware! I’ve also worked for marketing and CRM before moving into my current role about 4 years ago.
Please can you sum up your job for an absolute stranger in one sentence?
Where do I even begin!? Ultimately, I make sure the online journey is seamless for customers, make sure we are promoting our best offers (both in email and online), liaise with buying to get craft products online, help look after our Members Subscription areas online, and generally play the role of ‘Mum’ for the team. I’m a bit of a control freak so I like to get involved in everything!
What does a typical day in life of you look like?
It starts with a much-needed coffee, followed by a quick check of the website to ensure it’s behaving as it should and a review of the previous day. We always have a 10am meeting to check everything’s on track, then typically I brief work to designers – such as updating the homepage, creating new banners for the website or creating brand shops. I might then get involved in planning for forthcoming events and promotions, briefing messaging for emails, coming up with new features to test online and helping customer services with any issues customers might be experiencing. As I have been here 10 years, I seem to have my fingers in many pies! My day usually ends with checking the website for the following day and proof-reading the latest emails set to go out.
Favourite Film ever?
This is such a hard question to answer and really depends on what mood you catch me in! My instinct is to say Grease (it brings back memories of dancing with my sister and singing into hairbrushes), the romantic in me might choose Breakfast at Tiffany’s or La La Land and as a Mum, I would definitely choose Elf – the film we watch every year to announce that Christmas has arrived in the Hylton household!
