30 seconds in the hot seat with Emily Chapman, Presentation Content Strategy Manager for Create and Craft
When did you join the Create and Craft family?
I started here in 2010 as an assistant producer, and remember being so overwhelmed by all of the crafty goodies on offer. 8 years later, it’s still exciting seeing new products come through the doors – albeit in a very different role!
How many people do you have working in your team? And what do you all do?
3 people directly, but between us we manage the presenters, guests and contributors – so it’s actually more like 100.
What is it about your job that gets you out of bed in the morning?
Teamwork. Create and Craft, now more than ever is a business built on good team relationships. I love people, and this job makes sure I’m talking to people from buyers, to our finance department, and assistant producers to potential new craft experts every single day in making sure we have the best possible offering in on and off screen talent.
Have you ever had a funny work incident you can tell us about?
A long time ago when I was an assistant producer on Ideal World (our sister channel), resident chef Paul Brodel needed to make mince pies for a Kenwood show but we had ran out of ingredients, so me being eager said I would go to Sainsbury’s for him and came back with a kilo of beef mince. Apparently that’s not what you use for mince pies..!
What’s your favourite thing to do with a day off?
Be outside! Whatever the weather (especially now whilst all the trees are changing colour) I love a good dog walk and then getting my hands dirty in the garden. I am excellent at ‘pottering’ and feel it’s a highly underrated hobby!
