We sat down with Steven Mincher, Promo & VT Producer/Director for Create and Craft.
How long have you worked here at Create and Craft?
A little over 5 years, I started on 5th November 2014, I’ve been in the TV, Video, Film industry for about 20 years.
Tell us about a typical day in your role? What does a Promo & VT Producer/Director do?
More often than not, no two days are the same. My job is to create, develop and manage multimedia audio/video content for Create and Craft. This includes producing informational and promotional communication for our company and TV channel such as commercials, event promos, videos for our websites, Live ‘in show’ VTs, interviews, animated graphics, editing, writing and recording scripts as well as external/internal corporate projects.
As a Producer I control and manage these projects from start to finish; I’ll often be given a brief and from that I will kick-start and manage all creative and logistical aspects involved to ensure the successful dissemination of these projects on time.
As a director I’ll control the artistic elements of the projects, this can be directing talent on studio or location shoots, storyboarding, writing and recording scripts through to editing.
What is your biggest achievement so far you have achieved whilst working at Create and Craft?
It has to be producing/directing the Create and Craft Christmas event Promos in 2015 and 2016. For me, these are probably the best events to promote because I can really flex my creativity, being able to produce and direct these is always a treat and a great team effort.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
The job satisfaction of taking a seed idea and producing that into a finished product; be that a promotional video or a commercial campaign, for me seeing it come together from what is often a scribble of an idea on a sheet of paper to a glorious piece of work that get to play out on television and on the internet.
Have you always wanted to work as a Promo & VT Producer/Director?
From the age of 18 I discovered I had a passion for film making! I turned down an offer to study for a degree in ITC after I completed my A-Levels and enrolled and completed a BND in TV, Video, Film production, and then onto a degree. From there I worked my way up from making cups of tea and holding cables to lighting cameraman and then onto Producing and Directing short form video projects.
Do you do any crafting, if not, what is a craft you’d like to have a go at?
No I don’t craft per-say! I do have a decent knowledge and appreciation of craft and art. My partner is an artist and she designs, makes and sells her own greetings cards and gifts.
What makes you want to come to work each day?
My job isn’t work to me, I love what I do.
What is a random fact about you that not many people know?
A little bit tenuous, but I am approx. 3 degrees from Bruce Lee! I studied martial arts from the age of 13-21 and my Kung-Fu ‘Si Fu’ (teacher) Philip Barnes was trained in Hong Kong for 5 years by one of the original students of Bruce Lee.
