How long have you worked here at Create and Craft?
I started at Create and Craft 7 Years ago as a Buying Assistant and have worked in the buying team on many different accounts and categories at various different levels.
What is your biggest achievement so far you have achieved whilst working at Create and Craft?
This is a hard question to answer as I have been fortunate enough to be part of so many amazing launches and projects. From our live broadcasts from CHA/Creativation California & Phoenix bringing world launches from across the globe straight in to customers’ homes. To more recently, launching Storage 4 Craft on to the channel bringing amazing storage solutions with a white glove service to our Create and Craft customers. Every day and week brings something new and exciting.
Tell us about a typical day in your role? What does a buyer do?
No day is the same, as a buyer I am involved in everything and I really enjoy seeing the whole process through; from discussing product and negotiating with the supplier, to being in the studio with the team setting up for the live show. There is not a typical day at Create and Craft but in short I spend most of my time talking with suppliers, putting together deals and talking with the internal teams about how we bring products to life.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
After putting all the hard work in to bringing a product on to the channel and planning it with all the relevant teams across Create and Craft, my favourite part is still that moment we go live for the first time.
Have you always wanted to be a buyer?
This wasn’t my first career choice as I studied Music Technology at University but I wouldn’t change anything and I will continue to work in buying.
Do you do any crafting, if not, what is a craft you’d like to have a go at?
I regularly craft with my 3 year old son making cards, painting, colouring and generally being messy and I will definitely be doing this with my other son when he is older (he’s only 6 weeks old). However personally I enjoy doodling and drawing but my passion is music, both writing and playing (I play guitar) as it really gives me an opportunity to switch off and be creative. I would however be love to find time to start bullet journaling as I love doodling and try my hand at creating some mixed media canvases.
What makes you want to come to work each day?
Product – The most exciting and interesting part of my job is product, I get really excited about new products, innovation, products at great prices and unusual products and then seeing our customers buy them and enjoy them as much as I do/ hoped our customers would. This is the main reason I have been here for 7 years as the craft industry is full of amazing people, customers, suppliers and product that make coming to work each day interesting, fun and always different to the day before.
What is a random fact about you that not many people know?
Some people know this but it seems to shock people when I tell them. I am really in to Grindcore and extreme music. I play in a band with some of my friends touring, sleeping on floors and jumping around on stage, playing loud obnoxious music. It’s almost the polar opposite of my work and home life but it provides an excellent release from anything that is stressing me out.
If you won the lottery, how would you spend your winnings?
First thing I would do is go on a really long holiday and see as much of the world as possible with my family.
